{"id":804,"date":"2026-03-31T08:26:59","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T08:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mycrochettips.com\/?p=804"},"modified":"2026-04-12T07:38:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T07:38:38","slug":"household-simpler-recycling-collections-begin-across-england","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.mycrochettips.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/31\/household-simpler-recycling-collections-begin-across-england\/","title":{"rendered":"Household Simpler Recycling collections begin across England"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-beyondwords-marker=\"69971732-c43b-4dc8-b507-eef4e22abd33\" data-beyondwords-player=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<h4><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-469701 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Simpler Recycling\" width=\"860\" height=\"516\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.mycrochettips.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/iStock-1166983428-1.jpg\"><\/h4>\n<h4>Simpler Recycling rules that mandate the separate collection of different waste streams have come into force for households across England.<\/h4>\n<p>Local authorities in England are now required to collect several different types of waste separately from households, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>food and garden waste.<\/li>\n<li>paper and card.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>all other dry recyclable materials (glass,\u00a0metal\u00a0and plastic, including cartons).<\/li>\n<li>residual waste (non-recyclable waste that is sent for energy recovery or to landfill).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, not every household in England will receive separate food waste collections as over a quarter of councils have missed the 31 March deadline.<\/p>\n<p>As first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cpv8ye887e4o\">reported by the BBC<\/a>, 79 councils across England said they would not meet the deadline. The government has agreed transitional arrangements with some local authorities, allowing them to implement food waste collections later in the year.<\/p>\n<p>Councils have received \u00a378 million from the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) this year as part of funding to roll out weekly food waste collections.<\/p>\n<p>As part Simpler Recycling, which the government calls \u2018integral\u2019 to a circular economy, households will have a maximum of four waste collections, with paper and card allowed to be collected alongside other dry recyclable materials in certain circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Circular Economy Minister Mary Creagh commented: \u201cWe are ending the bin collections postcode lottery and making it easier for people to recycle wherever they live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimplifying these rules will cut out carbon, clean up our streets, and help bring pride back into our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue to work hand-in-hand with local areas\u202fto deliver these changes and ensure there\u2019s more recycled content in the products we buy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In January, Defra pushed back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/news\/defra-challenges-completely-false-simpler-recycling-reports\/\">against \u2018completely false\u2019 media reports<\/a> that households could face \u00a3400 fines for recycling 37 \u2018prohibited\u2019 items as part of Simpler Recycling reforms.<\/p>\n<p>The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) has partnered with Defra to support the implementation of Simpler Recycling in England through the\u00a0newly established Change Network, which is hosted on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/defra\/\">Circular Online<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\/news\/household-simpler-recycling-rules-begin-across-england\/\">Household Simpler Recycling collections begin across England<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circularonline.co.uk\">Circular Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Simpler Recycling rules that mandate the separate collection of different waste streams have come into force for households across England.
